The Executive Summary of the EGOV4YOUTH project is now available online. This report examines the current state and future prospects of e-government in Europe, with a focus on youth participation in the digitalization of public administration. It summarizes the findings of Work Package (WP) 2, involving six project partners from different European countries: Exeo Lab (Italy), EILD (Greece), TalTech (Estonia), UBBSLA (Bulgaria), Vernian (Cyprus), and Yyouth (Norway).

The main objective of the report is to analyze how e-government initiatives can engage young people (aged 15-30) in improving digital public services. The research was conducted through an analysis of 24 best practices (4 per partner country), with a particular focus on youth participation and the use of technology to make public administration more accessible, transparent, and inclusive.

Key Findings:

  1. Best Practices in E-Government
The report identifies and examines successful e-government initiatives that effectively integrate young people into decision-making processes and digital public services. These initiatives serve as concrete examples of how technology can facilitate civic participation and improve interactions between youth and institutions.
  2. Youth Perception of E-Government
A qualitative analysis was conducted to understand how young Europeans perceive current e-government policies and the challenges they present. The research revealed that, while there are differences among countries, young people are generally enthusiastic about the potential of digital transformation but remain aware of concerns related to online security and privacy.
  3. Public Administration Perspective
At the same time, the report examines how public authorities perceive their performance in digitalizing services. Authorities are increasingly aware of the need to involve young people in their processes and to develop user-friendly digital platforms that encourage active citizen engagement.

A recurring theme across all partner countries is the importance of transparency in e-government practices. Various government institutions are adopting measures to make data usage more visible, a crucial step in building and strengthening trust between citizens and governments. Creating secure and transparent digital environments is essential to encourage active youth participation and ensure that digital transformation truly meets society’s needs.

The EGOV4YOUTH report highlights that digital transformation is not just about technological innovationit is also an opportunity to strengthen the connection between citizens and governments. Inclusive and transparent e-government initiatives can foster a sense of belonging among young people and institutions, encouraging active participation in democratic life.
